This Week's Prayer:
O God,
full of compassion, we commit and commend ourselves to you, in whom we live and move and have our being. Be the goal of our pilgrimage, and our rest by the way. Give us refuge from the turmoil of wordly distractions beneath the shadow of your wings. Let our hearts, so often a sea of restless waves, find peace in you, O God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ash Wednesday - Daily & Weekly Readings

Today's Reading: Luke 1:1-25

This Week's Psalm: Psalm 84

How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!

My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young - a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.

Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage...

... Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

O LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.

This Week's Prayer:
O God,
you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

A Message fom the Senior Pastor

Dear Community of St. John’s,

“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty…even the sparrow has found a home…blessed are those whose strength is in you…better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.” Psalm 84

Now, I want you to read all of Psalm 84 out loud (check out the right sidebar). Now. I am serious. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

It is important to hear those words out loud. They are words of comfort, words of strength, words of hope and words of home. Our Lenten theme for 2010 is “House to Home, Forty Days of Lent.” There is a little prodigal son and daughter in all of us and God is the one always, ALWAYS welcoming us home. Even the lowly sparrow has found a home in the presence of the Lord Almighty.

As for the past two years, I am asking you this Lent to remember 2-2-1. Two-Two-One. For our Lenten journey 2010 there are TWO daily disciplines, TWO weekly disciplines and ONE seasonal discipline.
